Scotland
The Summer Isles are located in Scotland, off the northwest coast of the mainland, by Achiltibuie. A picturesque archipelago comprising around 30 islands, skerries and rocks, each with its unique charm and character.
The islands
Tanera Mòr is the largest of the Summer Isles and currently the only inhabited island. Tanera was Bought over in 2017, with the island now being developed as a private retreat.
Once home to a monastery, a herring curing station, and a flour mill, Isle Martin has a rich and diverse history. Today, it is acknowledged as a bird sanctuary and is under the ownership and management of a dedicated community trust.
Priest Island, also known as Eilean a Chleirich, is renowned for being an RSPB reserve, hosting one of the UK’s largest storm petrel colonies. The island also provides a habitat for coastal nesting seabirds, pygmy shrews, and otters. Historically, the name of the island may have originated from its role as an “early Christian retreat,” which could explain its association with priests.
